Vishay Newport

A Secure and Reliable Source of Advanced Chips

Showcase at Wales Tech Week

November 2025
It was great to be at the heart of Wales Tech Week 2025 – Wales’ largest international tech summit, connecting with leaders from business, politics and the community.
One of our senior executives, Mike O’Sullivan flew in from the US to speak at a panel on the incredible collaboration that is happening through the compound semiconductor cluster in South Wales, alongside partners from Siemens, IQE, CSA Catapult and Swansea University, expertly chaired by the founder of the cluster, Drew Nelson.

The cluster is growing and Vishay has unlocked £250m investment with our partners in the UK and Welsh Government. We’ve seen:
32% employment growth
Over £350m in GVA
90% of the chips are for export
Put simply, there is no Net Zero without compound semiconductors. Building the most efficient chips will help our customers meet the huge challenges of electrification including EVs, data centre growth and the shift to renewables.
It was also great to connect with the leadership team of Newport Dragons, David Buttress and Mike Sage who are reaching hundreds of primary school children in our award-winning joint STEM programme led by Angharad Kibble.
We had a chance to meet with Wales Office minister, Anna McMorrin, Plaid Cymru Senedd member Peredur Owen Griffiths, former First Minister Vaughan Gething, as well as officials from the Welsh Government and Cardiff Capital Region. There are exciting developments with the planned Investment Zones and the AI Growth Zones.
Thanks to everyone who made it such a success.
