About Vishay
Vishay is a US headquartered company that was established over six decades ago in 1962, and now employs around 24,000 people. We manufacture a wide range of semiconductors in factories including in Germany, France, and the US, and now in Newport, South Wales.
The Vishay journey began with one man, Dr. Felix Zandman, and a revolutionary technology. From there Vishay would grow and become stronger over the decades, arriving at where we are today: one of the world’s most trusted manufacturers of electronic components. Our founder, Dr Felix Zandman, was a holocaust survivor who spent his childhood in a Ghetto in Nazi-occupied Poland (now Belarus). His inventiveness helped create one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electronic components.
We are the technology behind many of the brands you will know well. Our components are in the cars you drive, the smartphones you hold, the wind turbines powering the grid. We are trusted to deliver when it matters most: our technology helped power the Mars Rover and keeps advanced fighter jets one step ahead of the enemy.
During the pandemic, we worked with a manufacturer of hospital ventilators who had to stop production when one of their suppliers closed. We redesigned a resistor within just three weeks, so they could restart production, helping save the lives of Covid-19 patients.
Most of our products are in power conversion – converting energy from the grid to charge electronics, that could be the laptop you are using, or making it easier and quicker to charge up an electric car. Our technology is also supporting the roll out of the 5G network.
Our technologies have important applications for the energy transition, by reducing energy loss and waste, and helping the UK to meet its Net Zero commitments.

Vishay Newport is the UK’s biggest semiconductor manufacturing facility. Wales will benefit from a planned £250m investment thanks to our partnership with the UK, Welsh and local governments. We are building a secure and reliable local source of advanced chips ensuring supply chain stability to power UK and international industries. More than 95% of the technology developed in the Welsh compound semiconductor cluster is exported around the world.
