Although every country and location is different, our factory near Hamburg in Germany has some similarities to Newport.  It works in similar technologies, is a similar size, and was at risk of closure when we acquired it in 1996. Since then, we have secured the future of the site which employs around 500 people, including supplying to the automotive industry. Last year we announced an investment of €300 million to expand chip production, by building a new wafer fab next to the existing site, which will create 150 new jobs in the first phase of expansion. Long term, we think Newport has the potential to expand and create new high skilled, well paid manufacturing jobs.
